Use the Microsoft 365 setup troubleshooter to install Microsoft 365, Office 2021, Office 2019, or Office 2016 on your Windows PC. This option could be useful if you constantly have to wait for Outlook to rebuild its data file when you restart. There are multiple ways for you to send and receive email, and multiple versions of Outlook available. To check if you have received the fix, review your contact list to confirm duplicates have been removed.

If so, wait a short time (usually two or three minutes) to see if Outlook starts working again. Sometimes you’ll open Outlook and then for no apparent reason, it will freeze or email recovery and repair shut itself down. There are quite a few different causes for this, but one of the most common is a defective add-in. Here’s how to disable add-ins in Outlook even when it keeps crashing.

If you typically use an Outlook.com account for email, this issue can occur if there are multiple aliases on the account and the 3rd party email address email recovery and repair is the primary alias.
